Hearing God For Others - Practically Prophetic

The basis of hearing God for others is hearing God for yourself! All you need to do is ASK and LISTEN.

God speaks in many ways:

  • Through the Word.
  • Through Wise counsel.
  • Through Prayer.
  • Through Preaching.
  • Through Visions and Dreams.
  • Through Prophets.
  • Through Circumstances.

Prophecy is rarely ‘Directive’ ie: God wants you to marry x or y.

It usually has details specific to the person.

It usually confirms something they have already heard or thought about, read, or received from another prophet.

Prophecy should be tested:

  • Does it conform to principles taught in Scripture?
  • Does it make common sense?
  • Does it fall In line with advice from others?
  • Does it witness with your spirit?

Be sensitive in sharing any ‘Word’ - ask them if they wish to hear what you have to say and if they feel comfortable with that, go ahead and share.

Encourage them to think about it (‘Test’ it), if they feel it’s right, receive it. If not forget it.

How does it work?

  • Prepare - be asking God to speak to and through you. Watch your life!!
  • Listen with your spirit, it may come as a brief thought, impression or picture.
  • The FIRST thought etc that comes - grab it! God will always get the first word in!
  • Check it - put the thought out of your mind and ask the Lord to bring it back, if it’s from Him. If it does come back it will usually be stronger with a feeling of ‘yes, that’s right!’ It is usually right to share it if they want to hear.

Pray for the Person asking God to Bless them. Be sensitive about laying hands on somebody - especially with someone of the opposite sex - ask if it’s ok to put your hand on their shoulder. Impart something from God to them.

Prophecy is a learning process that requires FAITH and practice. If your motive is to honour God, bless and serve others for Him, you won’t go far wrong. If you do get it wrong don’t worry, keep trying!
